70 Years of Scouting!

This year Oxford Boy Scout Troop 930 marks its 70th Anniversary. Founded in 1939 as Troop 30, it has been a continual presence in Oxford. It has provided countless opportunities to the youth of Oxford to grow, develop skills and have a great time doing it. The Scouts themselves have given back to the community with thousands of hours of community service -- from planting hundreds of trees in (then brand new) Hueston Woods State Park to more recent efforts in support of the local food pantry, the Race for the Cure, and other community events.

To celebrate the Troop’s 70th Anniversary they will be hosting a Community Potluck Dinner on November 14, 2009. This event is open to the whole Oxford community, but they especially hope to encourage all the families who have ever been involved with Scouting in Oxford to come share in the celebration. Bring a dish to share, get reacquainted, share old memories, and enjoy good food and fellowship as former Scouts and Scoutmasters share their memories of Scouting.

Sat. Nov. 14, 2009 5:30 P.M.

Talawanda Middle School
4030 Oxford Reily Rd.

Fall Camp Out

The Fall camp out has been rescheduled for November 7th and 8th.

We hope you will all be healthy and able to attend. The Pack leadership felt any later in November would make the weather too questionable. Please contact your Den Leaders as soon as possible so they can get an official head count.

The location will remain the same: Drake Farm on Fairfield road. (Last driveway on the left before crossing the bridge into Indiana)

Events will still kick off at 9 am on Saturday morning with a full day of hiking and outdoor skills.

Each scout is responsible for his own sack lunch; other meals will be provided.

Cost is $3 a person....family members welcome!

Record Breaking Sign Up!

Wow! This years sign up was a huge success! We would like to extend a huge Cub welcome all the new scouts. Thanks to you Pack 961 has almost doubled in size and has become the fastest growing Pack in the Fort Hamilton District!

The enthusiasm and turn out at this year's Regatta made it clear to the leaders that we need to reorganize some Den's in order to best meet the needs of all our boys.

Mr. Wasburn-Moses has volunteered to take on a Den of 'New' Weblos I. This Den will include any new 4th grade boys that just signed up this year and still need to earn their 'Bobcat' badge. He will be holding meetings on Sundays at a location to be determined. Please wait on buying a 'Den Number' patch for your boy's uniform until we assign this Den an official number.

Den 3 Weblos led by Mr. DeWitt and Mr. Kelly will remain the same and continue to meet at Faith Lutheran Church the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

Similarly we would like to split the Wolf Den into two groups as their numbers are nearing 20. Recommended Den size is no more than 8.

If you would like to become more involved in your son's scouting leadership please let us know. It is our hope that these splits will keep the Dens more manageable and give our boys more one-on-one leader attention. Please contact us with your questions, concerns or suggestions. We hope to accommodate all our scouts as best we can and remember:

The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

(Music by 'The Cars')

A boy, his dad, and a 5 ounce block of wood.

Congratulations to all our Scouts on another successful derby! We had over 30 cars in this years competition including smurfs, land sharks, and police cruisers. We even had a couple of "Wii" controllers on wheels! Whether you took home a ribbon for best in show or your car cruised across the line topping 130 virtual miles per hour remember:

"To finish first, you must first finish."
- Rick Mears

Be sure to mark your calendars for Districts: Sunday, March 15. Even if your not racing, come on down to Millet Hall on the campus of Miami University to see the car show and root for your Pack mates.
