October Campout "bags of fun!"

Our October campout at Hueston Woods was loads of fun! Dens worked on achievements during the day on Saturday, and went trick-or-treating in the RV campground Saturday night.

Nature hikes, map and compass, general outdoor adventure were the order of the day, along with group meals campfires, skits, songs, and storytelling at night. We had beautiful weather. The boys also seemed to greatly enjoy the plentiful opportunities to get REALLY dirty, so it MUST have been fun.

Kick Ball

When? Saturday August 28th 10am-??? Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Where? Peffer Park Oxford

We are going to have to see how many boys show up for the tournament. Teams should have 8-11 boys per team. I'd like to have 2 additional boys act as referees, one home plate and one at first base. The rules that we will be using are available at http://www.kickball.com with few alterations.

Depending on how many boys show up, we will need to have 2 or more teams. The older boys will act as captains and we will have 2 captains per team. A coin toss will determine who will go first and the captains will take turns picking team members from the rest of the boys, so the teams should have boys of different ages. After that, we will play one game, break for lunch around noon, maybe pick new captains and teams, and play a second game in the afternoon.

There will be a volley ball court available as well. Could anyone provide a volley ball?

Families should bring their own hot dogs, mets, brats, ect + drinks and a side dish to share. The pack will provide the charcoal. Angie has volunteered to provide a kickball and home plate. Does anyone else have bases for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd?

Boys should be bring their own water bottles.

Phishing Photos

Owen of Webelos Den 3 celebrates his first fish ever.... Its a keeper!

This years Fishing Derby was a huge success. Thanks to all the scouts and their families who participated and to Mr. Rudolf of the Oxford Kiwanis for permission to use the pond. What a beautiful day!

This Saturday is the annual Kiwanis Pancake breakfast. If you enjoyed the fishing derby and our other Pack events this year please volunteer to help serve and clean tables at the High School anytime from 6:30 am to 1 pm. You only have to stay for a half hour shift and scouts in uniform eat for free. Most importantly this is our opportunity to say thanks to the Kiwanis who do so much for our Pack!

About 47 boys from local Cub Scout Pack 961 participated in the Pinewood Derby on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Talawanda High School. To compete in the Pinewood Derby, boys create a race car from a block of wood and directions. The boys then race the cars they've made. The top three Scouts from each rank will compete in April in the District Pinewood Derby. (Friday, Feb. 26, 2010; Oxford Press)
